Abstract
This article proposes the Trend–Territory–Talent (3T) triad as a theoretical and methodological framework for strengthening sustainable project formulation and supporting its transition into design-driven ventures. The study responds to the need to broaden the conventional role of industrial design beyond the formal and functional development of products and to understand it as a strategic capability for anticipating change, interpreting territorial conditions, and mobilizing human and organizational capabilities. A semi-systematic literature review was conducted using Scopus and Web of Science. The initial search retrieved 2,846 records; after duplicate removal and the application of screening, eligibility, quality, impact, and relevance criteria, a final analytical corpus of 47 articles was established. The thematic synthesis revealed six insufficiently integrated knowledge domains: sustainable entrepreneurship, sustainability innovation, sustainable business models, design for sustainability, design-driven innovation, and capability-based territorial innovation. These findings informed the development of the 3T model. Trend supports the recognition of emerging signals and future-oriented opportunities; Territory provides resources, identity, institutional conditions, and contextual legitimacy; and Talent activates the creative, technical, entrepreneurial, and relational capabilities required for implementation. The main theoretical contribution is the concept of 3T strategic coherence, defined as the alignment between future relevance, territorial embeddedness, and execution capacity. The study concludes that industrial design can operate as a territorial strategic capability that connects sustainability, innovation, and entrepreneurship, enabling isolated projects to evolve into value propositions with economic, environmental, and social transformation potential.
